If Spirit Mountain is privatized, it will not only be a significant loss for the unionized workers who have dedicated decades of service, but it also risks our community losing its voice in future decisions. This includes control over rates, access, and development of a vital recreational facility. We must prevent a 40-year contract with outsiders that could lead to poor management and irreversible damage to our beloved mountain.
Protecting our workers: a 50-year legacy
Union workers have been the backbone of Spirit Mountain since its opening nearly 50 years ago, enduring various management changes. Privatization is not a necessary solution for effective management. The city's decision to lock into a 40-year contract with external big corporations despite past management issues, is deeply concerning. This move threatens the livelihoods and hard-earned retirements of employees who have served our community for decades.
Envisioning a brighter future for Spirit Mountain
In 2021, the city commissioned a task force report that provided clear recommendations for Spirit Mountain's prosperity. However, the city has been slow to act, creating a narrative that the facility is a nuisance. We believe in the vision outlined in that report. Our mission is to support our dedicated workers and ensure the city honors its commitments, preventing union busting and fostering a thriving Spirit Mountain for all.
